Award The Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) has awarded Marilyn Western the title of 2008 Outstanding Technology Using Teacher of the Year at the MACUL Conference in Grand Rapids . This award is given to recognize and honor MACUL members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in using technology to improve education. Marilyn teaches 5 th and 6 th graders in the computer labs of Mary McGuire and Fancher 5/6 Elementary Schools. Outside of the classroom, she also works as a national presenter for the Bureau of Education & Research and trains teachers in technology use during summer workshops throughout the state.

 West Intermediate & MPHS As a service learning project West Intermediate in partnership with Mt. Pleasant High School kicks off their annual “Miles for Miracles 5K run/walk” campaign. Miles for Miracles is a fundraiser for cancer charities. “Students and community supporting those in the fight against cancer & taking a step toward a cure!”
Last year's recipients of the $23,320 were Community Cancer Services, Noval K. Morey Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, and Hospice of Central Michigan, Inc.
